Tamarindo Beach Marathon, 1/2 marathon, 30K & 10K
September 21, 2013
Marathon Tours and Travel is constantly looking to discover interesting destinations one mile at a time and we discovered a very well organized running event in Central America in 2009. We are pleased to offer our third trip to the Tamarindo Beach Marathon, 30K, Half-Marathon and 10K events in Costa Rica set for Saturday, September 21, 2013.
Costa Rica offers plenty of exciting activities, especially if you're interested in eco-tourism and outdoor sports. In the past decade, the number of visitors to Costa Rica has quintupled, and tourism has become the leading sector of the nation's economy.
Costa Rica is practically synonymous with ecotourism—travel that incorporates education about the environment and promotes preservation of natural resources. The country has a large number of national parks and nature preserves that boast a rich array of birds, mammals, reptiles and rain-forest plants. The variety of birds, in particular, is astounding: Some 850 species are packed into a relatively small area. Approximately 25% of the country's land has been set aside in protected areas, earning Costa Rica a reputation as an environmentally-sensitive destination.
We are offering one main itinerary and four-night accommodations at the oceanfront, all-inclusive Tamarindo Diria Hotel. Optional activities such as a zip line canopy adventure or snorkling cruise are nearby. We do suggest exploring more of this fascinating country after the marathon. We can arrange travel to the Arenal Volcano National Park, rainforest and more. (Photo of the howler monkey courtesy of Matt Greaney).
