May 16 (Tu) - Depart U.S. for flight to Beijing.


May 17 (We) - Arrive in Beijing. Transfer to the Renaissance Beijing Capital Hotel. This evening you will enjoy a welcome cocktail reception.


May 18 (Th) - We travel to the Great Wall for a mandatory inspection of the on-Wall route. Both runners and spectators will visit the Great Wall and all race details will be given at this time. All runners must walk the 3.5 km of the wall that is part of the Great Wall Marathon course, as it is very important to familiarize oneself with that specific section in order to take proper precautions and incorporate that part into the race strategy. Non-runners are also welcome to participate in this walk (good physical condition is required for this strenuous walk). Lunch is included.  (B,L)


May 19 (Fr) - This morning you will enjoy a behind-the-scenes view of Hutong, the old city of Beijing. You will travel the ancient alleyways via 3-wheeled bicycle rickshaws. We then travel to the Summer Palace for a tour of the man-made lake and have lunch. We return back ot the hotel early today to allow you to rest before the big race day. We gather tonight at the hotel for a pre-race pasta dinner. (B,L,D)


May 20 (Sa) - RACE DAY. Early morning departure for the Great Wall International Marathon, Half-Marathon, 7.5K fun run. Time to experience the once-in-a-lifetime thrill of running on the world famous Great Wall of China. A boxed breakfast in prepared for us for an early departure. Subway lunch will be provided after the race and massage is available as well. Dinner is on your own. (B,L)


May 21 (Su) After breakfast we start the day by motorcoach to Tiananmen Square, the largest square in the world. We will walk through the square from south the north, passing Chairman Maos Mausoleum. We will then entter the Imperial Palace and the Forbiden City, one of China's architectual masterpieces which were forbidden to the common people until the early 1900's. Lunch is to follow. We return early so you can prepare for the Gala Dinner. (B,L,D)


May 22 (Mo) - After breakfast we will visit the Temple of Heaven. We then visit a tea house to learn about and sample local teas. After luch we will visit the Lama Temple. We return back to the hotel briefly before we depart for our Peking Duck dinner followed by an exciting Chinese acrobat show (B, L, D)


May 23 (Tu) - After breakfast we will check out of the Renaissance Beijing Capital Hotel and transfer to the Beijing Airport for a 90 minute flight to Xi'an. Upon arrival, a cordial welcome by our English-speaking local representative who coordinates your ride to the hotel. Tour the enormous city walls,sensing the immense scale and enduring impregnability, and then guided walk through the Muslim quarter of the Old Town and the local market. This afternoon check in at the Sofitel on Renmin Square Xi'an Hotel. Please note that lunch today in on the plane. You may want to grab a snack for the flight. Tonight we enjoy the famous dumplings at Defachang's (B,L,D) 


May 24 (We) - After breakfast, we will visit the famous life-sized Terra Cotta Warriors who have been guarding the tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi for 2,000 years and the Horse Museum. After lunch at a local restaurant, visit Wild Goose Pagoda, a Buddhist pagoda located in southern Xi'an. The Tang Dynasty Dinner Show is included this evening. (B,L,DS)


May 25 (Th)  After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Lhasa. Upon arrival in Lhasa, a cordial welcome by our English speaking local guide who coordinates your ride to the hotel. We check in today at the Shangri La Hotel Lhasa.The rest of the day is free at your leisure to acclimatize yourself to the high altitude. (B)


May 26 (Fri) This morning starts with a tour to Potala Palace, a huge walled castle of buildings spring from the hillside above Lhasa liek a medieval fortress. Built brtween 1645 amd 1693. Here you will have access to both the outer section called the White Palace, and the inner one called the Red Palace, viewing the well-preseved apartments of the 13th and 14th Dalai Lamas for a tatse of their rarefied world and Tibetan Buddhism. After lunch at a local restaurant, the tour then brings you the Jokhang Temple which was consecrated in 647 AD on a strict geomantic scheme. Followimg a prayer wheel-lined pilgrim route, you will see the sacred chapels, halls, and the golden roofs. The pathway will then lead you to Barkhot Street, the middle pilgrim circle in a clockwise direction, where in seraching the prayer wheel you will melt into a fusion of colour and activity.(B,L)


May 27 (Sa) After a sumptous buffet breakfast in the hotel you start the morning by visiting Norbu Lingka, a complex that sits in a 98-acre park and served as Dalai Lama's Summer Palace, and visiting the Drepung MonasteryDrepung Monastery is considered one of the three great monasteries in Tibet. It was first built in 1416, and held 7,700 monks in it heyday.  In Tibetan language, Drepung Moastery means monastery of collecting rice. After lunch, then onto the magnificent Sera Monastery to see grouyps of red-robed young monks debate Buddhist doctrines and  in lively traditional style. (B,L)


May 28 (Su) After breakfast we visit the Anitsamkhum Nunnery, located to the southeast of Jokhang Temple, a renowned Gelukpa and the only nunnery in downtown Lhasa. Afternoon visit to the Tibet Tradtional Hospital, originally built in 1916, Mentesekhang (also called Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute) was the place of research for Tibetan medicine and calendar calculations for the former local government. After a large expansion in 1980, it became the center for treatment, training, research, and production of Tibetan medicine. Our last stop has us visit a local family, where you will know the daily life of a Tibetan. This evening enjoy a memorable Tibetan dinner and show where you'll be entertained with a colorful, traditional dance. (B,L,D)


May 29 (Mon) After breakfast today, departure transfer to the airport to catch our flight back to Beijing. Upon arrival back into Beijing in th afernoon we wil be transferred to the Regent Beijing Hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure. You can explore the Wangfujing street markets for last minute shopping. (B)


May 30 (Tu) Say goodbye to China. After breakfast, check out of the hotel and transfer to the airport for your flight home. (B)
