Course: The course is mostly flat and is a single lap, starting and finishing close to the City Centre. The start will be in Fitzwilliam Square East and the finish will be in Merrion Square West. The course passes through many of Dublin’s famous 18th century Georgian streets and the beautiful Phoenix Park, Europe’s largest urban park. The race crosses the city, north and south of the river Liffey. The hotel is located at the start and finish. There are 10 water stops along the course and Lucazade Sport Drink will be provided at 4 stops. High Five Gels will be available at 16 & 21 miles. The course is open for 7 hours.
Marathon: With a record 19,500 runners in 2016, Dublin now hosts Europe’s 4th largest marathon. There were 5,700 international runners in the race, from over 60 countries. The 38th running of the event in 2017 is expected to attract 19,500 runners again and will probably sell out. Walkers are welcome and start behind the runners at the same time. There are no shorter events on the day. Marathon entrants must be over 18 years of age on race day.
Weather: Conditions are typcially ideal for marathoning. The average temperature ranges between 50F-60F and a slight south to southwesterly breeze that is usually present makes the environment ideal for running.
Entry Fee: Runners receive discounted Dublin Marathon entry if booked directly through Marathon Tours. Entry is guaranteed and closes August 31, 2017. Entry does not require a qualifying time. Entry is $85.00 per runner. Runners must be 18 years or older on race day.
Time Limit: The course is open for 7 hours.
Awards: Everyone who finishes the Dublin Marathon course will receive a beautiful engraved marathon medal, plus a special commemorative marathon T-shirt and a goody bag.
