The ABS Auckland Marathon course runs from Devonport on Auckland's North Shore, around the shopping district of North Shore City, and then crosses the northern motorway before turning south to the Harbour Bridge. After crossing the Bridge, the course takes in Westhaven Marina, the Viaduct Harbour (the halfway mark), before heading out along Auckland City's waterfront. This section of the course is an out and back, with the turn point being in St Helier's Bay. The return leg follows the same course back to the Viaduct Harbour for a finish at Victoria Park. The first half of the course is best described as "rolling" while the second half, other than two road bridges, is flat. The Marathon course is measured in accordance with IAAF guidelines.
It is a requirement that the Auckland Harbour Bridge be fully open for traffic from 9:45am. This means that participants reaching the 13km mark at Stafford Park at the entry point onto the Harbour Bridge after 9:00am will not be permitted to continue. Transport will be available at this point for those not making this cut-off time across the bridge to Sarsfield Street to continue the event. In addition to the cut-off time of 9:00am, there is a requirement to re-open the Auckland Harbour Bridge to traffic by 9:45am. As a result any participant still on the Auckland Harbour Bridge at 9:20am will be transported across the bridge to Sarsfield Street to continue the event.
Due to the expected congestion in down-town Auckland a finish cut-off time of 1:00pm is imposed. Those still on the course at 1:00pm will be removed from the course and transported to the finish. All First Aid support and Support Stations will progressively close along the course until 1:00pm.
Spring time temperatures will range from 52 degrees F to 66 degrees F for late October, early November.
Entertainment will be provided on event day at Victoria Park for the official 'Picnic in the Park'. Participants, friends and family can enjoy the live music and on stage entertainment while celebrating your day of achievement in Auckland City.
You must pick up your race pack and race items at the Registration & Expo prior to race day. A Sports Expo will be held in conjunction with Registration and exhibitors include sponsors, suppliers and official merchandise.
Participants must bring their eTicket and photo ID with them to collect their Race Number and Race Pack from Race Headquarters, Registration & Expo, Viaduct Event Centre, 161 Halsey Street, Auckland City, between the following hours:
- Thursday October 29 12:00pm to 7:00pm
- Friday October 30 10:00am - 7:00pm
- Saturday October 31 9:30am - 5:00pm
Race packs include your race number, timing chip, any ferry/bus tickets you have purchased, exclusive race T-Shirt, and gear bag.
ASICS event T-Shirts will be distributed with your Race Pack at Registration prior to the event to all entrants in the Marathon, Half Marathon and 12k Traverse events. Entrants in the Heart Foundation 5k Challenge and KIDS MARATHON will not receive a T-Shirt.
Please ensure that you identify your correct T-Shirt size on the entry form as T-Shirt sizes cannot be swapped or changed at Registration. The T-Shirts are a slim fit.
Due to safety constraints at the start and finish, on the course and on the Auckland Harbour Bridge, a total limit of 10,500 participants is imposed for both the Marathon and the Half Marathon events.
Within this total limit is also a restriction to a maximum of 7,500 Half Marathon participants. This allows for a minimum of 3,000 Marathon participants. Marathon Tours & Travel offers a guaranteed race entry after online entry is closed.
