June 1 (Mo) or earlier - Depart your hometown for an overnight flight to Santiago.
June 2 (Tue) - Arrive Santiago and transfer to the Renaissance Hotel (transfers on your own). Join Marathon Tours for a small welcome reception at the hotel in the early evening.
June 3 (Wed) - Full day tour via motorcoach to Valparaiso, a very funky and infamous Chilean town. Lunch is included.
June 4 (Thur) - Depart hotel early this morning for transfer to the airport for Lan Chile 5-1/2 hour flight to Easter Island, one of the most isolated inhabited islands in the world. Arrive about 12:55pm and transfer to the Hotel. In the afternoon there will be a half-day tour to Orongo before a race briefing. Race entry pick up for the traithlon this evening.
June 5 (Fri) - Full day of sightseeing around the island. We will visit Vaihu, an ancient ruin site; Ahu Akahanga, a huge platform with four fallen statues and according to legend herein lies the tomb of the first king of the island; Rano Raraku Quarry, the original source of the moais; past La Perouse Bay and the site of the largest standing moai; finally to Anakena, a beautiful archaeological zone and beach area. Triathlon in the morning for those interested (full day tour will be missed).
June 6 (Sat) - Mountainbike race in the morning for those interested. For others, the day is free to explore the island on your own! Relax all day or visit other historical sites and villages. Evening pre-race number and t-shirt pickup plus a pasta dinner at the hotel.
June 7 (Sun) - Marathon, Half-Marathon and 10K race day! The start and finish is in the center of Hanga Roa, the main town on the Island. Evening award ceremony held at the gymnasium.
June 8 (Mon) - Rest those weary legs and enjoy a beach day or a day of relaxation along the waters of the Pacific! This evening enjoy a farewell dinner at Kaimana restaurant in Hanga Roa.
June 9 (Tue) - Depart hotel later in the morning for return flight to Santiago. Arrive in Santiago about 7:45pm and connect to your overnight flight back home or continue to Machu Picchu (June 9-15th).
NOTE: Flights out of Santiago need to be booked 9pm or later for departure on June 9th. If you cannot secure a flight out of Santiago that evening we can assist with hotel reservations for you that evening with the rest of the group travelling to Machu Picchu.
MACHU PICCHU EXTENSION ITINERARY
June 9 (Tue) - Depart Easter Island for your flights to Santiago. Upon arrival this evening in Santiago, collect your luggage and check-in to the Holiday Inn Santiago Airport. Dinner is on your own this evening.
June 10 (Wed) - Early check out from the hotel to board flights from Santiago through Lima to Cusco. Upon arrival in Cusco transfer to Aranwa Cusco Boutique Hotel. The afternoon is free to explore this beautiful small town. Meals included: none.
June 11 (Thur) - Enjoy a leisurely breakfast this morning and the beauty of Cusco before you trasnfer to the Ollanta Station to board your Vistadome train. Arrive at El Mapi Hotel and enjoy a lovely dinner this evening.
June 12 (Fri) - Awaiting you today is a high point in the world of tourism: Machu Picchu. Your adventure startsin the city of Aguas Calientes, where you board a bus that will take you to the archeological site of Machu Picchu. The tour includes discovery of all that this 7 Wonder of the World and UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site has to offer. Afterwards, enjoy some free time to explore Machu Picchu on your own before descending to Aguas Calientes for buffet lunch at El Mapi. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Dinner is on your own.
June 13 (Sat) - Today is our second and final day at Machu Picchu that offers Huayna Picchu & the Sungate Hike. This hike is moderately challenging. The peak shelters another archeological site, the Temple of the Moon. The underground galleries are wonderous. The one hour hike to the Sungate, the last part of the Inca Trail, will provide you with the royal view the Inca had when arriving to this citadel! This afternoon, we will depart for Ollanta Station where we will board our train in return to Cusco. Overnight at the Aranwa Hotel.
June 14 (Sun) - After breakfast tour this amazing colonial city built on the foundations of the Inca palaces. You will visit the Koricancha or Temple of the Sun, where you can appreciate the incredible masonry of the Incas. Then visit the Plaza de Armas and Cathedral with its carved woodworks and altars, before visiting Sacsahuaman, the underground cave and temple of Kenko.
June 15 (Mon) - After breakfast transfer to the airport for your flights to Lima. Meet your connecting flights home from Lima Airport.
