Final course measurement and preparation take place the day before the race, as base activity, road conditions, and weather can all influence the final route. Our preferred layout includes access to all four nearby bases – China, Chile, Russia, and Uruguay, which allows us to set a three‑loop course for the marathon.

The terrain consists entirely of dirt/gravel “roads” used for transportation between the bases that are frequently muddy and uneven. Oceanites has been researching the effect of climate change and tourism on Antarctica for more than 30 years.
