A record-breaking\u00a01,338,544 people\u00a0entered the ballot for the\u00a02027 Double TCS London Marathon<\/a>, smashing the previous record of 1,133,813 set in 2026. It\u2019s safe to say this\u00a0Abbott World Marathon Major<\/a>\u00a0is now one of the most sought-after races on the planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether it’s your first time taking part in a marathon, your first time running in London, or you’re a certified London legend, we’ve put together some frequently asked questions about the 2027 Double TCS London Marathon to put your mind at ease…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

London Marathon 2027 date<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Well this is an interesting one…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the first time in its history, the first time in road running marathon history, the first time in Abbott World Marathon Majors history and for one time only, the 2027 TCS London Marathon will take place over two days. To help maximise the amount of fundraising from the largest fundraising event in the world and to offer more people a chance to run following a record breaking 1.34 million ballot applications, the marathon will take place over a full weekend in 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How long is the London Marathon<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The same as every other marathon…26.2 miles long!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How many km is London Marathon<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

42.195km precisely, which is exactly the same as every other marathon!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The TCS London Marathon course route is known for being very flat with only one small rise. While the official 2027 course map hasn\u2019t been released yet, it\u2019s expected to follow the same iconic route as recent years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If similar to 2026, runners can expect the triple start to head out of Greenwich Park and Blackheath Park, loop through Greenwich and across Tower Bridge. Circling Canary Wharf the course is expected to run along the Thames past the Tower of London through Trafalgar Square and onto The Mall where runners will finish in front of Buckingham Palace. The course is one of the worlds fastest, which led both Yomif Kejelcha (1:59:41) and Sebastian Sawe (1:59:30) to break the men’s marathon world record in 2026. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

London Marathon start times<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The official start times for the\u00a0Double\u00a0have not yet been confirmed. However, if it follows the same schedule as 2026, the\u00a0mass start is expected to begin at 09:30\u00a0from\u00a0Greenwich Park and Blackheath Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ll update this section as soon as the official times are announced – so stay tuned!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

London Marathon cut-off times<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Competitors will only be eligible for a medal and to feature in the results if they complete the course before the official cut off time, which is typically 19:00 on the day of the event (subject to change in 2027 at the organisers\u2019 discretion). The official mass start time in 2026 was 09:30, giving runners nine-and-a-half hours to complete the course, though generally the vast majority of runners had completed by the 6.5 hour mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

London Marathon Running Show<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The TCS London Marathon Running Show 2027 is set to take place at the ExCeL London between Tuesday 20 April and Saturday 24 April. How do I collect my race bib?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

You will need to collect your race number from the TCS London Marathon Running Show between Tuesday 20 April and Friday 23 April if you are running on Saturday 24 April. If you are running on Sunday 25 April, you will need to collect your race number between Tuesday 20 April and Saturday 24 April. If you’re local, a quick trip to the Expo might be easiest. If you’re travelling from further afield, booking a hotel<\/a> nearby is a smart move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Average London Marathon time<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

According to London Marathon data provided by Strava, runners are getting faster! In the 2022 London Marathon, runners averaged a time of 4 hours and 18 minutes, but in 2023 the average time dropped to 4 hours and 6 minutes…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, it is entirely dependent on conditions on the day. Weather is a huge factor; temperatures ranging between 10 and 20 degrees make for perfect running conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
