Optional Day Excursions<\/h3>\r\nJune 30 \u2013 The Golden Circle Tour\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>\r\n\r\nStart time<\/strong>:<\/strong> 16:00<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nThe bus will pick us up at our hotel in Reykjavik and take us east for a visit to the Golden Circle. Our first stop will be at Thingvellir National Park \u2013 the only place on Earth where the mid-Atlantic rift, dividing the American and Eurasian Continental Plates, is visible above sea-level. Next, we will visit Strokkur Geyser \u2013 Iceland\u2019s famous geyser which can hurl up boiling water to heights reaching 70 meters. Even if the famous geyser is not currently active, the entire area of the\u00a0Haukadalur\u00a0Valley is full of geothermal activity and hot pools \u2013 including the much more active Strokkur geyser that regularly shoots water to heights between 20 and 40 meters. Our last stop is the massive waterfall Gullfoss,\u00a0arguably one\u00a0of Iceland\u2019s most beautiful waterfalls. We will be back in Reykjavik in the evening, and you can explore the capital of Iceland on your own.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nIf your flight arrives at 13:30 or\u00a0later\u00a0this day, you should not count on being at the hotel in time to join this tour.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n \"\"<\/span>\r\n\r\nJuly 3\u00a0\u2013 \u00a0M\u00fdvatn\u00a0Nature Baths\u00a0<\/strong>\r\n\r\nAfter\u00a0the\u00a0race, give your muscles a treat and take a soak in the naturally heated\u00a0waters. The mineral-rich water will soothe your skin while the warmth relaxes you. At this time of year,\u00a0you can savor a slow sunset as you bask in the water and enjoy the views. While the Nature Baths\u2019 lagoon is manmade, the water is drawn up from a hot spring with a depth of 2.500\u00a0meters\u00a0the lagoon itself averages between 36-40 degrees C, and the water is rich with minerals that are considered to have a positive effect on skin.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nIn addition to the lagoon, the\u00a0M\u00fdvatn\u00a0Nature Baths offer two steam baths that are built directly on top of the geothermal area. There are windows in the steam baths so guests can enjoy the magnificent view, and cool showers right outside to relieve the heat. There is also a caf\u00e9 in the facilities where guests can\u00a0purchase\u00a0a variety of food, sweets, and drinks.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nPlease bring a bathing suit.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n\u202f\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nJuly 4 \u2013 Majestic Waterfalls\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>\r\n\r\nTravel with us to the canyon known as\u00a0J\u00f6kuls\u00e1rglj\u00fafur\u00a0and see magnificent waterfalls \u2013 including one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe:\u00a0Dettifoss. This waterfall is 45 meters high and an incredible\u00a0100 meters\u00a0wide and is the largest waterfall in Iceland in terms of water volume. Within walking distance (approx\u00a0.75 mile) lies another breathtaking scene: the Selfoss waterfall, which cascades 11 meters down. These waterfalls and the landscape surrounding them have been featured in various Hollywood productions. The third waterfall that we will visit is\u00a0Hafragilsfoss; a true hidden gem in Iceland. Although often overlooked, it\u00a0provides\u00a0a breathtaking view of the canyon and the mighty river that forms it \u2013 with the\u00a0additional\u00a0perk\u00a0of being less crowded!\u00a0We\u2019ll\u00a0drive about 1.3 miles up a dirt road and then take a short hike to an amazing view above the 27-meter-high falls.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n \"\"<\/em><\/span>\r\n\r\nJuly 4 \u2013\u00a0Lofthellir\u00a0Ice Cave\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>\r\n\r\nThe\u00a0Lofthellir\u00a0Ice Cave is a lava tunnel filled with permafrost ice. The cave boasts incredible ice formations, some of which are hundreds of years old, that have been formed by over the course of time by dripping water The tour will start from the Lake\u00a0M\u00fdvatn\u00a0area, and we will drive past some incredible geology, including the volcano Mt.\u00a0Hverfjall, and along the\u00a0L\u00fadentarborgir\u00a0crater row. Once we reach the base of Mt.\u00a0Hvannfell, there will be a 30-minute guided hike across lava fields to the entrance of the\u00a0Lofthellir\u00a0cave. There you will be provided with equipment to safely navigate the cave. We will travel slowly into the cave in a single line. Your cave guide will help you\u00a0to move\u00a0safely through the cave. The entrance is the narrowest part of the\u00a0cave\u00a0and participants will need to crawl on all fours to pass through. Past that point, every step you take into the cave will open to\u00a0more and more\u00a0space! A lost world of ice and magic awaits, frozen in time and in space.\u202f\u202fThe\u00a0Lofthellir\u00a0Ice Cave is a protected area and is privately owned by local landowners. Only a limited number of tours are allowed in, and all tours are\u00a0operated\u00a0by certified cave guides.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nPlease note: This tour is not for people with claustrophobia, young children, or people that are not in reasonable physical condition.
