Abbott World Marathon Majors

The Abbott World Marathon Majors (AbbottWMM) is a series consisting of seven of the largest and most renowned marathons in the world: Tokyo Marathon, Boston Marathon presented by Bank of America, TCS London Marathon, TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS (as of November 2024), BMW BERLIN-MARATHON, Bank of America Chicago Marathon and TCS New York City Marathon . The organisers of these events are united in their effort to advance the sport, raise awareness of its elite athletes and increase the level of interest in competitive marathon racing among running enthusiasts. Two marathons currently in the Candidacy stage include the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon and the Shanghai Marathon. For athletes across the globe, competing in an Abbott World Marathon Majors race is a significant accomplishment. Once you have successfully completed six events, you will earn the Six Star Finisher Certificate and Six Star Finisher Medal. If Cape Town is successful in joining the series in 2026, and Shanghai is successful in joining the series in 2027, a new Nine Star Finisher medal will be introduced. For more information, go here.

It was an honor to be part of this annual event in Sydney and we look forward to the fifth annual championship planned for New York City on November 2, 2025 in conjunction with the TCS New York City Marathon. Approximately 2,500 of the world’s best age group competitors, who qualify from more than 370 races worldwide during the 2024 season, are expected to participate.
