Did you know – the Athens Marathon 2024 race is inspired by the Ancient Greek legend of Pheidippides, a messenger who is said to have run from Marathon to Athens to bring news of the Greek victory over the Persians at the Battle of Marathon? This is your opportunity to run the original marathon route, following in those victorious steps.

Arrival Day and Reception
Arrive in Athens and transfer on your own to the Royal Olympic Hotel. Check-in is at 15:00pm. If your room is not available upon your arrival, they will hold your bags should you wish to start exploring! If you have time today, we would advise heading to the Expo to collect your race bib. Tonight we will gather for our Welcome Reception at the Hotel. (Reception included)

5K race and Pre-race Dinner
Today is a free day for you to explore the city.
Tonight we will gather for a pre-race dinner at the hotel. (Breakfast and dinner included)
Note to 5K Runners: The 5K starts at 17:00pm (subject to change) and it is requested you be at the starting area by 16:30pm. We will walk you from the hotel to the corral area, just a short walk away. Your walk from the finish line at the Stadium back to your hotel is approximately 10 minutes. Please join us after your race for dinner.

Race Day
After an early breakfast make use of the bus transportation provided by the race organizers to transfer to the race start. We will walk you to the buses to ensure a smooth start (approx. 10 minutes). For those running the 10K, the race will start later this morning. The 10K corral area is only a short walk from the hotel. Your walk from the finish line at the Stadium back to your hotel is approximately 10 minutes.
After a momentous day on the 10K or marathon course, the rest of the day and evening is free to celebrate your achievement however you choose. A non-hosted celebration dinner at a local restaurant is an option for anyone wishing to venture to the Plaka area this evening (steps involved)!

Royal Olympic Hotel
The Royal Olympic Hotel is a family-run hotel, located beneath the shadow of Acropolis and just in front of the famous Temple of Zeus. This recently renovated 5-star property, is right next to picturesque “Plaka” (the Old Town), the Royal Gardens and the Ancient Stadium.
Enjoy the views from the hotel’s rooftop bar and restaurant serving traditional Greek dishes. The property also has a pool, fitness centre, library and a 24-hour reception. Run The Original Marathon Route in Athens
The course starts in the village of Marathon and becomes hilly for the middle third of the distance, the last third is a gradual downhill before finishing inside the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens.
This is your opportunity to run the original marathon route with more than 43,000 runners and 80,000 spectators. The incredible city of Athens is a mecca of historical importance and the Athens Marathon 2024 gives you the opportunity to experience the wonder of the city in a truly unique and memorable way.
Race Start Time: 09:00am (10k starts at 08:15am)
Weather: Average temperatures range between 60F to 75F.
Course Time Limit: There is an eight (8) hour time limit.
Number Pickup: Each runner must pick up their own race packet at the Expo.
Eligibility: All marathon runners must be at least 18 years of age on race day.
Awards: Every finisher will receive a medal, finisher certificate, sport-bag and commemorative t-shirt.
Difficulty: Difficult due to the hills. The last 10K is downhill, which is a relief to your legs!

Minimum age
To take part in the Marathon 42km, you must be at least 18 years old. To take part in the 10km or 5km you must be at least 12 years old.
How to book
To make your booking, make sure that you select the correct number of rooms and types for all members in your party plus all the required extras. When you book, we will require a deposit to confirm your place.
Payments
When you confirm your booking, we will take a deposit payment. Subsequent payments are taken automatically.
The cost of the event entry is non-refundable.

We are pleased to offer you guaranteed entry for the Athens Marathon 2024 42km, 10km, or 5km. You can buy the entry at an additional cost if you also buy the accommodation package with us.
Starting Times and Bib Numbers
Although we are licensed to sell official entries for the Athens Marathon 2024 42km, 10km, or 5km, we have no influence over the allocation of starting times and bib numbers.
Closer to the event we will ask for your expected pace and other details to complete the registration process for the Athens Marathon 2024. The race organisers will allocate you a starting time and bib based on the information you provide.
All race rules must be followed.
