The Beer Lovers Marathon is a unique blend of running, fun, and Belgian beer culture, making it a memorable experience for both participants and spectators. Each year there is a theme which encourages runners to race in costume, adding to the lively nature of the event, this year’s theme: Belgian Comic Strip!
Unlike traditional marathons, this event features beer stations along the route where, in addition to water and fruit, runners can sample different Belgian beers, with a whopping 16 different regional beers to choose from! These stations often have live music and festive activities, creating a party-like atmosphere. In addition to a great atmosphere, the course takes runners through the beautiful and historic city of Liège, offering scenic views of the city.

Belgian Comic Strip Costume Ideas
-
This year’s Beer Lovers Marathon theme is: Belgian Comic Strip!
Belgium has a rich tradition of comic book creation, and its comics have gained worldwide recognition for their unique style and storytelling. Here are some popular Belgian comic characters and potential costume ideas:The Smurfs:
- Classic Smurf: Wear a blue jumpsuit with a white hat and a red collar.
- Papa Smurf: Dress as the wise and elderly leader of the Smurfs, complete with a long white beard and a blue robe.
- Smurfette: Create a feminine costume with a blue dress and white hat.
Tintin:
- Classic Tintin: Wear a red and white striped shirt, a beret, and a pair of brown trousers.
- Captain Haddock: Dress as Tintin’s adventurous and eccentric companion, complete with a captain’s hat, a white shirt, and a red scarf.
- Professor Calculus: Wear a lab coat, white beard, and thick glasses to create a costume based on Tintin’s brilliant but absent-minded scientist.
These are just a few examples but with a little imagination, you can create an easy yet fun costume that pays homage to these iconic characters… we can’t wait to see what you come up with!
