Kangaroo Island Marathon achieves 150% growth as Marathon Tours & Travel delivers first edition under new management

Marathon Tours & Travel (MTT) has successfully delivered the Kangaroo Island Marathon for the first time under its new management, with the event drawing runners from around the world, making a significant contribution to the local community and economy.

Held on Sunday 24 August against the rugged coastal backdrop of Flinders Chase National Park, the 2025 edition of Kangaroo Island Marathon welcomed 191 runners across the marathon, half marathon and 10K distances, representing 12 countries. Numbers were up 150% on the previous year, with 10% of the field being made up of local runners.

In addition to showcasing Kangaroo Island as a world-class running destination, Marathon Tours & Travel placed a strong emphasis on community partnerships and sustainability.

Such initiatives included:

  • A custom finisher’s beer created by Kangaroo Island Brewery, with an afterparty hosted at the venue.
  • Event merchandise designed by Kangaroo Island Wool and a finisher’s cap donated by BlackChrome Apparel.
  • Prizes for placegetters offered in partnership with South Australian businesses.
  • Traditional ANZAC biscuits for finishers, made in collaboration with Aurora Ozone Hotel, Kangaroo Island Oats, and Kangaroo Island Ligurian Bee Co.
  • Aid stations stocked with biodegradable products and locally produced tubs of honey in place of single-use gels.

All event assets and waste were also removed from the park post-race, ensuring the natural environment was left untouched. Participant feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, praising the organisation, on-course experience and community feel.

Race Director Shannon Stacey at Marathon Tours & Travel, said: “We’re incredibly proud to have delivered the Kangaroo Island Marathon for the first time under our new management. The race not only showcased the breathtaking landscapes of Flinders Chase National Park but also brought genuine benefit to the local community through meaningful partnerships. We sincerely thank all of our local partners that supported our first iteration of the event. This is just the beginning, and we’re excited to build on this foundation in future years.”
