Run (or Hike) off-road from Manchester to the Peak District National Park
Trail Escape: Manchester is a truly unique trail running event, starting and finishing in an urban environment and still managing to run through some of the most beautiful locations in the country. The race begins and ends in Philips Park, close to the Etihad Campus (Manchester City’s football ground) and very quickly escapes the city streets to encounter a glorious landscape waiting to be discovered. The route follows traffic-free trails along tranquil green corridors out of the city to reach the stunning western edge of the stunning Peak District National Park.
After enjoying the breath-taking views out over the countryside and back towards the city, the route then crosses rolling hills and moorland to pass through picturesque villages. You’ll re-join the green corridor to return back into the city and the well earned finish line. Combine this trail run with a couple of nights in the beautiful, cultural hotspot of Manchester and you’ve got the perfect city break trail run.

Arrival Day
Arrive in Manchester and enjoy your Friday afternoon with a light stroll around the city and a night relaxing at the hotel. Stay at either the Novotel Manchester Centre Hotel or the Ibis Styles Portland Hotel for 1 or 2 nights with daily breakfast included.
Saturday 21 June 2025
Race Day
Today you have relatively early start with the Trail Escape Manchester run starting at 08:00am and the hike/walk starting at 08:15am. The event starts and finishes in Phillips Park, close to the Etihad Campus which is accessible by the Metrolink tram system from the city centre (Etihad Campus stop in Zone 2). The route heads out via Daisy Nook Country Park towards the Peak District National Park and takes in the trail climbs of Hartshead Pike and Alphin Pikem before returning to the city.
There are aid stations and a choice of three spectator points dotted along the route. You have the choice to take the marathon distance slowly and enjoy the scenery or take on the trail escape at speed – it’s totally up to you – you still get a finisher’s medal at the end! Once you’re finished you’ll be able to head back to the hotel, celebrate in a choice of local restaurants or soak up the culture of Manchester’s bustling nightlife!

Trail Escape Route Information
Both the Marathon and 25K events will start and finish in Philips Park close to the Etihad Campus (Manchester City’s ground), which has access to the Metrolink network.
Follow a traffic-free route along tranquil green corridors out of the city to easily reach the stunning western edge of the beautiful Peak District National Park.
After enjoying breath-taking views back towards the city, the route will then cross moorland and rolling hills, and pass through picturesque villages before re-joining the green corridor to return back into the city and the well-earned finish line.

The routes will suit all levels of runners and experienced walkers.
Fully Supported Route
The routes will be fully supported with way-finding and marshals just like a traditional road event.
Along the way, there will be Aid Stations in place with fuel, food, hydration & toilets to help you along the way. Cheer points and music will enhance the experience that is Trail Escape Manchester.
Spectators
Spectators can be with participants at the start and also see them at a few points on the route. Friends and family can take a short journey on the Metrolink to Ashton-under-Lyne tram stop, then change here to get to Mossley where they can see marathon runners/hikers twice at Hartshead Pike (and also enjoy amazing views of Manchester and the Peak District!)
There will also be enough time in Mossley to enjoy some lovely cafes and pubs before heading back for the finish.
Timing and Medals
This will be a timed event but not necessarily a race.
While there will be categories for fastest finishers (and KOM/QOM challenges on the way), your goal is to enjoy running or walking on these incredible routes!

Security Policy
Marathon Tours & Travel’s security policy requires that anyone staying in our room block must be registered as part of our package. If a registered client attempts to house a non-registered guest and/or invite them to attend any of our scheduled activities, the registered guest’s tour package will be forfeited, and parties may be denied access to future tours. Please note that no exceptions will be made as this policy will be strictly enforced.

Our itinerary and details regarding the race are based on current information available at the time this package was released for sale. Whilst we expect the details to remain correct, changes are possible and will be confirmed nearer to the trip after the race organisers have confirmed final instructions. All race rules and procedures need to be followed.
