Following breakfast we will set off to explore Belfast beginning with a Black Cab tour. This is a political history tour of West Belfast’s Murals, telling the story of the Troubles. The award winning tour has been broadcast worldwide. Taking in sights at Falls Road, Shankill Road, Peaceline Wall, Crumlin Road Gaol, and the Murals. Next, we will visit Crumlin Road Gaol. Grasp the wonderful opportunity to experience the history inside the former prison, Crumlin Road Gaol, which dates back to 1845. Closed in 1996, it also played a significant role during the troubles in Belfast. Designed by Charles Lanyon at a cost of £60,000, it was one of the most advanced prisons of its day and was built within a five sided wall on ten acres. It was the first prison in Ireland to be built according to the “separate system”, intended to separate prisoners from each other with no communication between them. The prison was designed to hold between 500- 550 prisoners but during the civil unrest in Northern Ireland especially during 1970s as many as 900 prisoners were held here.

Once we return to Belfast the rest of the day and evening are free to enjoy. (Breakfast included)

In the Visitor Center, there are various interactive exhibits, and the self-guided visit will culminate with a spectacular two minutes audio-visual projection of a volcanic eruption flowing over the walls and onto the floor.

Next, we will visit Dunluce Castle. Tucked away on a Cliffside west of Giant’s Causeway, Dunluce Castle is one of the most picturesque and romantic Irish Castles. With evidence of settlement from the first millennium, the present castle ruins date mainly from the 16th and 17th centuries. It was inhabited by both the feuding McQuillan and MacDonnell clans.

"I had decided at the beginning of the year that I wanted to run Dublin..." - 2019

I had decided at the beginning of the year that I wanted to run Dublin because I had never been to Ireland and thought it would be a great way to start my journey to the Seven Continents Club. While trying to register, I discovered that I had to book through Marathon Tours and recognized the name from my work with Back on My Feet Boston (Marathon Tours is a sponsor). I also figured that if I wanted to get more adventurous with my running, it would be beneficial to work with a company who could make that experience as amazing as possible, and I was not wrong.

      "I am one of the running Ambassador's..." - 2019

I am one of the running Ambassador’s for the Fleet Feet Marathon Running group. I sent out an email tonight to my group in regards to the Indy Monumental marathon this weekend that many in my group are running. In this email I told them about the wonderful experience I had with Marathon Tours and was very pleased at how well they organized all meals, day trips, travel, and group receptions. I would highly recommend using this group if you are considering running a foreign marathon.

A very beautiful city course, with abundant Irish hospitality. PS: I meant to mention that the Dublin Marathon Volunteers were excellent, as was course maintenance by the police – the course was very well marked, especially through possibly confusing right and left turns at beginning and end. I felt very welcome in Dublin.

It wasn’t ALL about the marathon, which was great for my non-runner spouse! Met awesome people, had a great tour guide. I had such a crazy schedule with work/family before the trip, it was nice I didn’t have to do much planning.
