GUIDE, RUNNER, SINGER, TRAVELER AND ALPINE TREKKING SPECIALIST

If I could, I would give our guides an 11 out of 10. They were phenomenal — knowledgeable, personable, terrific.”

2019 Bhutan Tour Participant

Tucked away in the Himalayas, Bhutan offers visitors a different approach to tourism – High Value with Low Volume! Bhutan has been widely recognized THE leader in sustainable tourism and in a normal year will welcome fewer visitors than Disney World welcomes in a few days.

Guided by the ethos of Gross-National Happiness (GNH), Bhutan as a community of people has always shown us an incredible level of compassion and inclusion when we visit. The first thing lead guide Rinzin Dorji and our other Bhutanese hosts do when they welcome us at the airport is to place a Khata (white ceremonial scarf) around our necks to welcome us to their country. That simple gesture is a powerful preview of how our time together will be truly unique.

In addition to his professional training, Rinzin draws from his experiences as a runner, singer, traveler and alpine trekking specialist to connect with our group. While on a four-day trek together last year Rinzin would serenade us with traditional Bhutanese songs (including one he wrote and recorded), definitely a special treat while hiking through the clouds at 12,000 feet. Singing Happy Birthday normally wouldn’t compare, unless Rinzin and the cooks surprised you with a camp-made birthday cake along with a serenade for your 27th birthday.

Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, we are not able to see Rinzin in person this year on our annual Bhutan Thunder Dragon trip. Therefore, we are bringing a little piece of him to you through this short video.  We hope you enjoy it as much as we know you will love having him as your guide!

Fun Rinzin Fact: He is the only guide we have the pleasure of partnering with who exceeded Facebook’s limit for counting friends, they quit counting at 5,000! Think about that for a minute – the smallest country we visit, with fewer visitors in a year than Disney World welcomes in a few days and over 5,000 people want to stay connected with him.
