#TEAMMATETUESDAY

Today’s Tuesday Teammate Spotlight is on Liz, our Pastry Chef on board one of our 2018 Antarctica ships. Liz quickly became a client favorite before anyone had met her with her delicious baking skills. We finally met Liz when she came out of the kitchen and asked us if she could participate in the Antarctica Marathon to commemorate her last Antarctica cruise. Even though she had never participated in a marathon or half-marathon before, we agreed to let her run since: She obviously understood the conditions in Antarctica. A number of clients offered to support her on the course. She agreed that we would stop her at the half-marathon distance if she was below the cutoff time pace. On race day Liz was in the kitchen by 2:00 AM and by the time the runners arrived for breakfast she had the best cinnamon rolls waiting for them to fuel their run. By the end of race day, Liz had not only solidified her reputation as our favorite Pastry Chef of any Antarctica cruise, she had also become a marathoner by finishing well ahead of the cutoff time!  What is Liz up to now?  Check out her FB page here.

It is rare when one of our clients has not traveled or know of one of our treasured team members  – Jacqui Kaufman! She has been a contractual guide for Marathon Tour & Travel for decades, traveling to all seven continents with our clients.  She is warm, caring, compassionate, worldly, adventurous and the best salesperson when it comes to our Amazing Maasai Marathon Tour due to her love of her ‘second home’ …Kenya. We asked Jacqui to share a little about what she has been doing in her hometown of Boulder, Colorado since the pandemic started.  Enjoy this little excerpt on our featured #TeammateTuesday and please join us in congratulating Jacqui for recently becoming a USA Citizen!

Work and travel are a huge part of my life and not doing that, I thought would most certainly put me in somewhat of a tailspin. But, as they say adaptation is key.

As we are all having to adapt and learn to navigate our own landscapes, our days may be different. My days at home are…..well…..simply spent…

  • I hike
  • I explore
  • I run
  • I take photos
  • I climb mountains
  • I meditate
  • I am still
  • I practice my language skills
  • I attempt to learn a new language
  • I try to learn something new ………anything
  • I discover new books to read
  • I listen to countless podcasts
  • I notice all the different critters that frequent my garden, including the occasional bear

These are simple days, but good days.

With no bags to pack, no trips to prep for, no plane to catch – this has become my ‘new norm’ for now.

There is one more thing I would like to share.  On July 31, 2020, I took the oath to become a U.S Citizen! After many, many years in the making, this was quite a momentous day for me. But, this is another story for another day.

I miss everyone, but we will find ourselves on that start line again – in some far away place. Running is a salvation for many of us. Keep it up. Stay fit. Stay healthy.
